Ten pieces, endless outfits. A capsule wardrobe isn't about owning less for the sake of it — it's about owning the right pieces, so getting dressed feels easy every single morning.

We've styled thousands of customers over the years, and the happiest wardrobes all share the same trait: everything in them works together. Here's how we build one from scratch, without throwing anything you love away.

Start with an honest audit

Lay everything out — yes, everything. Keep the pieces you reach for week after week, note what's missing, and donate the rest with gratitude. Most people find they wear around a third of what they own; that third is the skeleton of your capsule.

“Buy less, choose well, make it last.” — the closest thing we have to a house rule.

The seven core pieces

Build around a neutral base, then add one or two pieces that make you feel like yourself. A good starting point:

  • A well-cut pair of trousers in a natural fibre
  • Two shirts — one crisp linen, one soft knit
  • A structured jacket or overshirt
  • A mid-weight jumper for layering
  • A dress or chore coat, depending on your week
  • Everyday footwear you can walk in
  • One loud piece — colour, pattern, or texture

Fit beats trends, every time

The single best investment isn't a brand — it's a tailor. Ten dollars of alterations will make a $60 jacket look like a $300 one. Try pieces on, sit down in them, raise your arms. If it doesn't feel right in the fitting room, it never will at home.

Keep it in rotation

A capsule isn't finished; it's maintained. mend small holes, wash linen cold and let it air dry, and give leather an occasional feed. Cared-for natural materials don't just last longer — they get better, developing the kind of character no new garment can fake.
